Rockwool

The rockwool used in Rokcore is bio-soluble. Bio-soluble means that any fibres inhaled into the lungs dissolve in body fluids and are then cleared from the lungs. Fibres would comply with the short term bio-persistence test and fulfill the requirements of Australian and international authorities on bio-solubility.

In 2001, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is part of the World Health Organisation, convened an expert panel to review more than 30 years of scientific and medial evidence in relation to the potential health effects of rockwool insulation.  As a result, the IARC panel determined that rockwool would be classified as Category 3 - “not classified as carcinogenic to humans”

Recommended Personal Protection

To minimise the risk of irritation due to dust when handling the product the following protective measures are recommended:

Skin Protection:

Wear long sleeved shirts and long trousers, and standard duty gloves conforming to Australian Standard AS 2161 (Industrial safety gloves and mittens).   Work clothes should be washed regularly and separately from other clothes.

Eye Protection:

When using high-speed cutting tools to cut the sheet metal on the panels wear safety goggles complying with AS 1337 for medium impact (marked “I”) or high impact (marked “V”).

Respiratory Protection:

If the panels need to be cut, wear an approved particulate respirator conforming to AS/NZS 1715 - Selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective devices and AS/NZS 1716 Respiratory protective devices.

For panels designed for high temperature applications (above 177 degrees Celsius) use air-supplied respirators in confined or poorly ventilated areas during the first heat-up cycle.

Personal Hygiene:

Adequate washing facilities should be available on site to wash the skin and to treat dust in the eyes.
